Petr Brandl and his self-portraits

This bachelor's work Petr Brandl and his self-portraits is to be set on the life and work of a baroque painter of the late 17th century and the 1st half of the 18th century Petr Brandl (1668-1735). After a brief introduction to the painting of the 17th century the text is focusing mainly on the most significant masterpieces of Brandl's in the context of the baroque art in the Czech surroundings, possible influences that might affect his work, and the crucial aspects of his life in chronological order. Afterward, the study is concentrating special attention, as it says in the title, on the issue of the self-portrait in Brandl's paintings, his self-reflection and the role of these works in his life, which had been analysed for the last time by Jaromír Neumann, and the matter of self-portrait itself and it's historical relevance. The major aim of this work is to gather up the new findings of the painter Petr Brandl and to present some of my thesis touching Brandl's self-portraits linking that with the previous research.
František Siard Nosecký

This diploma thesis focuses on František Siard Nosecký (1693 - 1753) - Czech baroque painter and on his artwork. He was born into an artistic environment. His father Jindřich Nosecký was also a painter which certainly greatly influenced his son. The majority of pieces of Siard Nosecký came into existence for Premonstratensian order into which he joined as a young man. Location of his artwork frequently corresponds with the location of his parish. His functioning is noticeable at different locations in Bohemia. However the largest space for self-fulfillment he had in Prague at Strahov in his home monastery where he spent the biggest portion of his consecrated life. In addition to acquainting with the life, work and creative inspiration of the painter, a substantial part of the thesis consists of a catalog of works that presents not only extant works but also several non-existent realizations that we learn about only from literature today.

Saint Elizabeth's spital in Pohořelec The extant altarpieces of the spital's chapel Abstract This thesis deals with the Saint Elizabeth's spital in Pohořelec near the monastery of Premonstratensians in Strahov. This spital was founded by the abbot Kaspar Questenberg and was located in the western part of Pohořelec. However, the original building wasn't preserved, because it had to yield to Prague's fortification in the 60's of the 17th century. Under the abbot Vincenc Makarius Frank the new spital was constructed. There was the chapel dedicated to the patron St. Elisabeth, which was mentioned in the written sources since the beginning of the hospital existence. During few years there were also ordered altarpieces. The contemporary literature associates only two paintings of saints with Saint Elizabeth's spital (St. Barbara and St. Rosalia). These paintings were placed on the side altars of the chapel and today are in the possession of the Royal Canonry of Premonstratensians at Strahov. Thanks to the preserved written sources, we were able to discover additional information of the spital's equipment and the chapel main altarpiece. Frescoes of Siard Nosecký in Sepekov

This Bachelor thesis Frescoes of Siard Nosecký in Sepekov deals with the painter František Siard Nosecký (1693-1753) and his high baroque work for Premonstratensian order. Nosecký came from artistic circles. His father, Václav Jindřich Nosecký (1661-1732), was a significant painter as well. In the opening chapters there are introduced the life and work of the painter and afterwards the history of the place of pilgrimage in Sepekov. The thesis is primarily focused on frescoes in Pilgrimage Panna Marie Church in Sepekov, which were created in 30th of 18th century. Vaulted paintings with Marian theme correspond with iconography of Premonstratensian order, yet there are some other untypical motifs to find, which were used during painting of his work of art. The Bachelor thesis is concluded by comparison of frescoes in Pilgrimage Panna Marie Church in Sepekov and frescoes with Marian cycles in Křtiny and Doksany.
